Obesity Action Coalition aims to advocate for all that are affected by obesity. They do so with these six focus areas:
1- Raising awareness.
2- Making treatment for obesity more readily available.
3- Providing information and education on obesity and treatment options.
4- Fighting to completely eradicate weight bias and discrimination.
5- Bringing the relationship between weight and health to the forefront of conversation.
6- Creating support and community for those affected by obesity.
They provide advocacy and support, education, information on childhood obesity, Your Weight Matters magazine, OAC blog, information on state resources, and have recently started an image gallery featuring individuals with obesity in a positive light. Check OAC’s position on hot topics here.
OAC was initially founded in 2005 when a legislator identified a lack of support for those dealing with obesity. Since then, OAC has been deeply involved in creating a healthy society by spreading knowledge and eliminating bias surrounding obesity.
We each have unique perspectives of the world based on our individual experiences. A Duer is someone that feels a personal responsibility to support the world in the most positive ways they know how. That means finding people and organizations that you have come to believe in and feel passionate about, and standing with them however you are capable. Whether your inspiration leads you to a donation or to the steps of the capitol, find the change that you believe is due.
